Summer Organizing Giveaway

Photo by Linda SamuelsSummer is the time to slow down, tackle those organizing projects and enjoy vacation time. One powerful motivator for getting things accomplished is having a time deadline. For example, knowing the bags have to be packed before the plane takes off or the minivan leaves for the family road trip creates an urgency to be ready. For the Summer Organizing Giveaway, I’ve put together some fun travel-related organizing tips and giveaways.

Organizing Travel Tips

  • The List: Yes, we can try to keep all the details in our heads, but making a list of the items you want to take, makes packing easier and less stressful. After writing your list, “go shopping” in your drawers and closets. Gather items onto a large, flat surface and then pack away.
  • The Containers: You can just throw things willy-nilly into your bags, but grouping items together in packing cubes or Ziploc bags will keep you and your suitcase organized. Packing cubes can also be used as drawer organizers when you arrive at your destination.
  • The Nourishment: Bring items to feed both the mind and the body. For the body, pack some travel snacks (nuts, dried fruit, mints or chocolate) because you never know when hunger might strike. For the mind, travel light and download your favorite books to your electronic reader. The Other Side of Organized just became available for the iPad, iPhone, Kindle and Nook. It will soon be available on Sony Reader too.
  • The Last Minutes:  Before any trip, there are always last minute things to do and purchase. Keep an extra list nearby to capture those “to do” thoughts that pop into your head. Having your action list nearby will help keep you focused and worry-free about not forgetting to cancel the newspaper, hold your mail or buy extra sunscreen.

Tip: Keep it very simple. I wouldn't try to do too much at one time, and I would make sure that I stayed stree free.

Taking my Kobo to a cottage soon, for the first time. I love that I don't have to figure out how many books to bring or which ones I may feel like reading, or worry about lugging the extra weight. Just load it up and I'm good to go!

Janet- Must feel good to have the choices and options that an e-reader offers. Had not heard of Kobo before, but looked it up and seems like a great product. Have to admit that I'm still a paper girl when it comes to books...but can certainly understand the advantages of going electronic. Enjoy your vacation!

We travel often and travel to mainly time share condos, so I try to pack half the clothes I normally would and laundry detergent and do laundry in the evenings, so that the clothes are clean during the trip and can just be put away when we go home, instead of doing mounds when we get home! Also, I save up all the travel/trial sizes to bring, so I don't have to pack them back up again to bring home. (keep them in ziplocs too in case they spill)

Kate- That's such a smart way to travel. Light and easy. Thanks so much for stopping by to share. Happy summer!

Kate, we've stayed a couple of places with laundry facilities, and we also took advantage of it. Much nicer not to have to deal with all that dirty laundry when you get home!

Yes. Having washer/dryer access certainly helps during and after vacation. We traveled many summers to The Outer Banks for vacation...rented a beach house for a week. Loved having in-home access to laundry for all the reasons we talked about.

That's so awesome, Tracy. Bet you're enjoying your summer vacation. Traveling is wonderful. It gives us a break from our routines, opens our eyes to new experiences, and creates special time and memories with our loved ones. Going into a trip feeling organized and prepared really helps enhance the joys of travel. Safe, happy trails!
